Free Maps

We love free and open data so we took some from the Irish Open Data Initiative and created some maps. This data is free to use but can be hard to find, so we are going to add to this repository of maps over the coming months so you can find interesting places to visit!

Irish Pilgrim Paths

This map contains a series of medieval pilgrimage paths across Ireland, some of which may have prehistoric origins. These are promoted by the Pilgrims Path of Ireland group for use, by both pilgrims and recreational users with an emphasis on spirituality

These datasets are being provided for public re-use under the Government’s Open Data initiative, and are published under the CC-BY-4.0. licence.

Sheela - na - Gigs

This map displays locational information for all of Ireland’s known Sheela-na-Gigs.

It was created using publicly available National Monuments Service open-data. This was augmented with images and information gathered from the museum sector and Sheela-na-Gig academics and enthusiasts.

Museums and More

This map contains a list of all publicly accessible collections housed in museums, collections, archives and visitor centres of historic/ cultural/ heritage interest, on the island of Ireland, as of February 2015. Their classification as museum, collection or archive is generally based on self-declaration of their facility type and not on any conventions as laid down by the Heritage Council.

These datasets are being provided for public re-use under the Government’s Open Data initiative, and are published under the CC-BY-4.0. licence.
